Certified Rank Examiners help USJA members and clubs follow a fair, consistent promotion process. They provide qualified technical examinations, document results, and help candidates prepare complete promotion recommendations.
When an examiner can help
A clear path forward
An examiner can assist when normal club resources are unavailable or a promotion needs additional review.

Four levels of service
Examiner credentials grow with experience
Each level recognizes additional rank, experience, and responsibility in the examination program.
Certified Rank Examiner
Sandan or higher. Eligible after demonstrating knowledge of USJA promotion procedures.
Regional Certified Rank Examiner
Yodan or higher with at least one year of service as a CRE.
National Certified Rank Examiner
Godan or higher with at least one year of service as an RCRE.
Master Certified Rank Examiner
Rokudan or higher with at least two years of service as an NCRE.
